27th Day: Aswan

Full-board on board. If you're an early riser, you have the chance to enjoy an optional excursion to Abu Simbel*, home to many rock-carved temples. Today, enjoy a tour of Aswan to uncover the sights of this fascinating city. Explore the famous granite quarry, where the building blocks of many of ancient Egypt's monuments were produced and visit both the old and new Aswan Dams, monumental engineering works built in the 19th and 20th centuries respectively to control the flooding on the banks of the Nile. Afterwards, we recommend to take the chance to book an optional visit to the Island of Philae**. A river island in the Nile where the ancient temple of the goddess Isis is located. End the day with a peaceful ride in a felucca, a typical fishing boat, on the river Nile. Return to the ship and enjoy relaxing on board. Dinner and overnight on board.

* Optional Excursion to Abu Simbel: Visit these amazing temples, carved on the western cliff of the desert by Ramses II in the Xl century BC. See the iconic 20-metre high statues, dedicated to the god Amon Ra, and the Temple of Nefertari, dedicated to the goddess Hathor.

Please note: If you take the optional excursion to Abu Simbel, you will depart from the ship at approximately 3 a.m. to make the most of the coolest and quietest part of the day. This way, you can fully experience Abu Simbel without the crowds and avoid sightseeing in high temperatures.

** Optional Island of Philae Excursion: Discover the historic island of Philae, in the reservoir of the Old Aswan Dam. It is home to the ancient ruins of the Temple of Isis and offers a fascinating insight into life and beliefs in Ancient Egypt.

Breakfast on board. At the indicated time, disembark the ship and transfer to the airport for a short flight to Cairo. Arrive in the capital and transfer to the hotel. Enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure to get to know Cairo. While away the day visiting the amazing Egyptian Museum, where it's worth spending some time to really get the most out of its unbeatable exhibitions or go shopping in the busy city souks to bag a bargain. If you have booked any of the optional activities in Victoria Falls, it is not necessary to purchase a visa for Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Instead, you can buy the KAZA UNIVISA which grants multiple entries into any of the three countries. The price is 50USD and it can be purchased on arrival at Victoria Falls International Airport.

***Please note: Mandatory tips of $55 per person for the Nile Cruise are not included in the price and must be paid at the destination. These are the ONLY mandatory tips you will be required to pay during this tour. Tipping for the rest of the trip is optional, but keep in mind that tipping is an important part of Egyptian culture and that it is commonplace for service providers to ask for tips. This trip is not suitable for a person with reduced mobility due to the nature of the excursions and the terrain.
However, please note that this tour can be taken privately. There will be a private guide and a specifically designed itinerary to ensure maximum enjoyment. The excursions will be taken via alternative routes with ease of access and the pace will be dictated by the passenger.
To take part in the private tour it is required that the person with reduced mobility is accompanied by a dedicated person at all times, to assist in any necessary situations, such as getting in and out of the transport vehicle, on excursions, and so on.

This is a fast-paced itinerary that includes a comprehensive number of sights and activities in order to give you the most complete experience of Egypt! You can expect several early morning departures and a full daily schedule of activities.

Please note: please be aware that the ship's Wi-Fi connection is dependent on satellite coverage and that there are sections of the cruise in which Wi-Fi will not be available. High-speed Wi-Fi is available to use in port only, for an extra fee of $8 USD per day.

It is essential to fill in the passport information correctly for each passenger in the given boxes at the end of the reservations process.

Zimbabwe: If you have booked any of the optional activities in Victoria Falls, it is not necessary to purchase a visa for Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Instead, you can buy the KANZA UNIVISA. The KAZA UNIVISA costs USD 50 and allows tourists to obtain one visa to visit Zambia and Zimbabwe multiple times. The visa is valid up to 30 days in any given period of 12 months, as long as the holder remains between those countries. It also covers those who visit Botswana for day-trips through Kazungula Borders and it can be purchased on arrival at Victoria Falls International Airport.

South Africa: Make the most out of your time in South Africa! Why not add one of the optional excursion packages during the next step of the booking process (it’s only possible to do one of the two).

Kenya:

**** Travelers must bring their own refillable water bottles. Although there will be 500 ml reusable bottles for sale with a price of USD 10 each, the proceeds from which will be donated to entities dedicated to nature conservation.

Roads in Kenya can be quite bumpy and are not in great condition, particularly those found in the country’s national parks. People who suffer with back problems should consider this before participating in a trip of this nature.

The safari takes place in a vehicle with space for seven passengers, with one passenger seated next to the driver. 

The luggage compartment of these vehicles is limited, so for the safety and comfort of all, each person may only carry one soft duffel bag of maximum 10kg.

The rest of the luggage can be left in the Nairobi hotel storage room at no extra cost. It will be identified with a tag and will be collected on return from the safari.

During your stay at Aberdares National Park, warm clothes will be required as the nights can be particularly cold in this region of Kenya.
